Get Adventurous! Why (and How) to Push Your Comfort Zone in Your Maternity Photos
It happens over and over: a client takes a risk in her maternity photo session by wearing a gown she didn’t expect to love or trusting my posing guidance, and then she’s utterly floored by her finished portraits. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard clients say, “I wasn’t sure how that would turn out but I’m absolutely in love with it!” This photo session is an excellent chance to be a bit brave and push yourself a little outside of your comfort zone…for several reasons.
Taking Advantage of a Rare Opportunity
Whether you love pregnancy or you’re counting the days until it’s over, the fact is that you may only have one or a few pregnancies in your life. Even if you have several pregnancies, each one is a different journey.
Because of this, every maternity photo shoot is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Take advantage of this rare opportunity and go big! You don’t want to regret playing itself, always wondering how your photos would have turned out if you had tried that one cool style you had in your mind or had tried tasteful nude portraits.
Putting Your Faith in Your Photographer
While maternity photography is an experience you might only have once or twice in your life, as a professional photographer, I know my way around a maternity shoot well. Between my years of experience and my endless training on techniques and photography trends, you can trust me when I say that I know how to make your maternity photos look phenomenal. Some of the poses or sets might feel awkward in person, but trust me, they’ll look incredible in your portraits.
Celebrating Your Miracle-Working Body
When it comes to comfort in maternity photography, one issue in which every client is different is nudity. Some clients are all about giving their nude belly some camera time or doing some tasteful nudes that show their pregnant form. Others are much more bashful.
I will never push you to do anything you don’t feel comfortable with, but even if you usually prefer to cover up or if you’re feeling self-conscious about your body, I highly suggest trying out some nude or semi-nude poses for your maternity photos. Your body is truly making a miracle by creating a whole new person, and your growing belly and other physical changes are beautiful proof of that miracle. This is a time to love and celebrate your body!
