My Boudoir Journey: Why I Now Offer Boudoir Photography
Did you see the news? I’m thrilled to now officially add boudoir photography as one of my services! But reaching this point has been a bit of a journey, and it’s a journey I never thought I’d take. Here’s how I found myself rediscovering boudoir photography and opening up my services as a boudoir photographer.
Why I Didn’t Offer Boudoir Photography in the Past
If you’re familiar with Jaimié Birtel Photography, you might know that my passion as a photographer is capturing the motherhood journey. I love telling the story of a mom’s experience, from maternity through newborn and family photography, and giving her precious heirloom portraits that the whole family will treasure.
For so long I have sworn that I would never add boudoir photography to my services, and that’s because it never felt authentic to my brand or to who I am as a photographer and an artist. I would see other photographers’ sultry and sexualized boudoir portraits and think, “They do great work but that’s not for me.” But recently that changed.
Discovering My Own Way…with a Push from a Friend
As much as I had always said boudoir photography wasn’t for me, a friend reached out to me one day and said she wanted me to take boudoir photos for her. She said, “I know you don’t think boudoir fits your brand, but hear me out…” and she showed me some of the boudoir portraits she had started seeing lately.
These boudoir photos weren’t just sexy pictures - they had more of an artistic style to them. My friend pointed out that the style was actually similar to some of my maternity portraits and said, “Look at these, you could do this!” And she was right!
I realized that my boudoir photos didn’t have to be like anyone else’s and that I could do them in my own way. I started to think about how to take boudoir portraits that align with my brand: focused on artistry and on bringing out my client’s beauty and confidence, not just on seduction. I grabbed onto that inspiration and booked a boudoir photography workshop on a whim to learn the techniques I needed to know.
After I had taken some time to learn more about boudoir photography and to find my artistic style of boudoir, I called my friend and said, “Let’s do this!” She came to my studio for her session and let me try out different poses, styles, and lighting. When I showed her her portraits, she was thrilled…and so was I!
Now Booking Seattle Fine Art Boudoir Photography!
With my friend’s encouragement, I realized that boudoir photography doesn’t have to depart from my artistic style and that I could do my own version of fine art boudoir photography. And I realized that in fact, boudoir photography is part of the motherhood journey too. I’ve created my boudoir photography session as an experience that helps you reignite your confidence and fall in love with your body. Your appearance can change so much when you become a mom, and when you’re taking care of everyone else all day it’s easy to lose sight of who you are as a woman. My boudoir photography will help you rediscover that identity and celebrate the strong, spectacular woman you are.
