Ways to Include Your Partner in Maternity Photos
For so many moms-to-be, a maternity photo shoot is a treasured part of their pregnancy experience. You deserve to enjoy this exciting milestone however you choose, and for some, that includes having their spouse or partner in their maternity photos. Should you include them, and what’s the best way to do this? I’m happy to share my insights as your Seattle area maternity photographer.
Should You Include Your Partner in Your Maternity Photos?
The short answer here is that it’s 100% a matter of your personal preference - there’s no right or wrong answer. Maternity photos are meant to highlight your motherhood journey, so the core focus will always be you and the beauty of your pregnancy. Many of my clients choose to include some portraits with their partner by their side but many clients choose to keep their maternity photos solo as well. Either way, rest assured that you’ll have plenty of photos of just you and your precious baby bump!

If you do choose to include your spouse or partner in your maternity portraits, there are so many ways to do this within the style and look of your photos.
Romantic Couple Portraits
The love between you and your partner is how this amazing new life came to be, so I love to highlight the bond between you with sweet, romantic portraits of you two together, with your baby bump shining through as a manifestation of that love. We can create portraits of the two of you dancing together in the sunlight, tenderly holding each others’ hands, or looking into each other’s eyes with a language only you two understand. It can also be fun to recreate a pose or two from your wedding photos or engagement photos as a side-by-side display.
Minimalist Hands-on the-Belly Photos
If you like classic and elegant maternity portraits, you can’t go wrong with zoomed-in shots of your hands on your belly, cradling your little one before they arrive. These portraits are equally special with both your and your partner’s hands, sending all of your love to your baby together.
Showcasing Your Personalities
Photography has a unique ability to capture so much in an image, and I love to use that ability to showcase a couple in their authenticity. During your maternity photo shoot, I’ll find ways to highlight the two of you in the genuine and one-of-a-kind way you relate to each other. That could be enjoying a hearty laugh together, sharing a sweet and quiet moment together, and so on. These portraits are often the ones couples love the most because they’re so real and representative of what makes your relationship special.
