What to Bring to Your Newborn Photo Shoot

A newborn photoshoot is an investment in an heirloom that your family will treasure more and more every year as your child grows. If you’re planning or considering newborn photos, you might start thinking ahead to your photo session day - specifically about what you should bring with you.

This will vary from one photographer to the next, but at my Mercer Island baby photography studio, that list is incredibly small because I already have most of the essentials in place. I create a luxury experience for every photo session and that includes making your newborn session as easy on you as possible.

There are still a few items you’ll want to bring, though.

Feeding Supplies

A newborn photo session typically lasts a few hours because we’re on your baby’s timeline, giving them plenty of breaks for soothing and so on. Plus, keeping your baby’s belly full will make them sleepier so we can get those precious sleepy newborn portraits that every parent loves. My studio is already equipped with a bottle warmer, burp cloths, and a boppy nursing pillow, but please bring anything else you’d like for feeding your baby.

Changing Supplies

Just like with feeding, your newborn photo session will last long enough that your little one will need a diaper change or two. I have some diapers at the studio already, but I encourage you to bring the diapers you prefer and also anything else you want to use for changing your baby.

Your Own Outfits

Portraits of your baby on their own are stunning but there’s also something so special about portraits of you and your spouse or partner with your new little baby. These photos capture the first days of a bond that will last a lifetime, and you’ll love having them to look back on. But don’t stress about what to wear for these portraits. We’ll meet for a consultation before your photo shoot and I’ll plan it all out with you. On the day of your photo shoot you’ll already have your outfits ready to go, so be sure to bring these to the studio.

…And That’s All!

Those few things are all you need to bring for your newborn photos. You don’t need to bring outfits or wraps for your baby, accessories for the baby, blankets to photograph them on, etc. My newborn photo studio is already fully stocked with these items in countless colors and styles so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

As a mom, I know how hard the newborn stage can be and I believe in creating gorgeous custom portraits for your family without adding more work and stress to your plate. At my studio, your newborn photo shoot isn’t a task to cross off your to-do list, it’s a special and beautiful experience for your new family to share.
