When to Start Planning Your Newborn Photo Session
If you have a baby on the way or you’ve just welcomed your new baby, where should newborn photography be on your to-do list? How early should you start planning your session and what does that planning entail? As a Seattle area newborn photographer, I’m happy to offer my expertise.
When to Book Your Newborn Photo Session
The short answer is that ideally, you want to book your newborn photographer during your second trimester of pregnancy. We won’t set a specific date because we don’t know exactly when your baby will arrive, but I’ll reserve space in my calendar based on your due date. After your baby is born, you’ll let me know and then we’ll set a date for your session. Booking in your second trimester allows me to set aside time for you before my schedule is full because I can only accept a limited number of newborn sessions each month. As an added bonus, it’s one task you’ll have done so you don’t have to worry about it as your due date gets closer.
When We Start Planning and Designing Your Newborn Photo Shoot
After you’ve booked your newborn photo session, when does the actual planning begin? When you book with me, we’ll schedule a consultation for about a month before your due date. This consultation is when we’ll talk about all the exciting details. We’ll discuss the aesthetics you want for your baby’s portraits and choose a color scheme. We’ll also talk about details like what you should wear for your photos with your baby and, if you have older children to include in the session, we’ll plan their wardrobes too. I can walk you through what to expect in the session as well and answer any questions you might have.
What if My Baby is Already Born?
If you’re reading all of this in a panic because your baby has already been born, it’s okay! Whether you didn’t realize you should book your newborn photos during your pregnancy or you didn’t decide to take newborn portraits until after your baby was born, don’t worry. I’ve worked with many families in this situation before and I’ll make it work! I know how special newborn photos are and I want to help you create these once-in-a-lifetime memories.
