Truth Time! Debunking 5 Myths About Boudoir Photography
You’ve heard people talk about it, you’ve seen some boudoir photos, and maybe you’ve even wondered if you should book a boudoir photo session. But all too often, I talk to women who hold themselves back from making that call because of common myths and misunderstandings about boudoir and what the experience is like. To help you get past those hang-ups, I’m here to bust some of the most common myths about boudoir photography as a Seattle area photographer.
Myth: You Should Get Boudoir Photography When You’re Looking Your Best
There’s nothing wrong with getting boudoir photography when you’re in great shape, especially to celebrate an accomplishment like reaching a goal weight. But boudoir photography can be even more powerful when you aren’t feeling your best on a day-to-day basis. These photo sessions are all about showing you how spectacular you actually are and refuting that self-criticizing voice in your mind that tries to tell you you aren’t beautiful. At this moment you are exactly who you’re supposed to be right now, and you’re perfect for boudoir photography.
Myth: Boudoir Photography is for Your Partner
It has become popular for brides to give their husband-to-be some boudoir photos as a wedding gift, and I’m sure your partner would love some sexy photos of you. That’s a great perk but it’s not the main purpose of boudoir photography. Boudoir photography is for YOU! These photos are meant to show you how stunning you are and to help you feel confident. All this to say, while it’s great to give boudoir photos to a partner as a gift, you don’t need a partner to have these photos taken (and you don’t need any reason other than treating yourself).
Myth: Boudoir Photos Have to Be R-Rated
When you think of boudoir photos you probably think of highly sexualized photos, women in lingerie posing on beds, and so on. While your boudoir photos can definitely be that steamy if you want, they can be as tasteful as you want too. Being sexy doesn’t have to mean showing tons of skin. It can mean anything that makes you feel beautiful and strong, and I’m here to make it happen!
Myth: Anyone Could See Your Photos
Boudoir photography is all about empowering you and putting you in control, and you’re the only person who gets to decide who sees your photos and who doesn’t. I will only post photos that you consent to post, and you can keep all of your photos private so I don’t post any of them. In fact, no one has to know you had a boudoir photo session except you and I.
Myth: The Photo Shoot Will Be Awkward
You might think boudoir photography will feel awkward if you’re not experienced in front of a camera, but it can be the exact opposite! I’m a pro at working with clients who might be camera shy and about helping you feel amazing in front of the camera so your session will feel comfortable, safe, and downright fun!
